Executive Director

Dr. A. G. Karunasena
On 1 July 2006, Dr. A.G. Karunasena assumed his post as the sixth
Executive Director of the SEACEN Centre. His appointment is for a 3-year term.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Karunasena was Central Bank of Sri Lanka Assistant
Governor, in charge of monetary policy and economic research. He brings with him a
wealth of experience in central banking policy and operations as well as training, having
served as Vice-Chairman of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and as resource speaker
in several training courses, including those organised by the SEACEN Centre. On the
international scene, he served for three years as a Senior Economic Consultant in the
World Bank Resident Mission, Sri Lanka, two and half years as Alternate Executive
Director in the IMF, representing Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Sri Lanka. One of the
highlights in his career as a central banker was to receive an “Outstanding Service
Award” from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in 2002.
