The Course is designed for examiners to understand operational risk management and measurement using the Advanced Measurement Approach (AMA) and will also include modules on the Basic and Standardized approaches. It will cover the tools used for operational risk, and will also discuss some of the challenges that may exist in differing jurisdictions. Objectives: At the end of the Course, participants will be able to calculate the capital charge for operational risk (using Basic Indicator, Standardised Approach and Advanced Measurement Approach) in accordance with the operational risk provisions of Basel II. In achieving the above, participants will learn to: (i) assess the appropriate use of risk management structures at the corporate and business levels; (ii) discuss sound practices for management and supervision of operational risk; (iii) examine the qualitative aspects of the Advanced Measurement Approach (governance and data); (iv) examine the quantitative aspects of the Advanced Measurement Approach (using scenario analysis, business environment, internal control factors, key risks indicators, risk control self-assessment); (v) discuss the variables used in selecting, building, validating and verifying the quantitative model; and (vi) calculate capital charges using Basic Indicator, Standardised Approach and Advanced Measurement Approach. Resource Persons: The faculty of resource persons comprises instructors and technical experts from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and central banks in the region. Target Group: The learning event is designed for examiners with experience and exposure in reviewing operational risk in a large bank setting.
