About This Seminar:
Sustainable finance (or ESG) markets are growing fast globally. While advanced economies had taken an early lead, 2021 has been a breakout year for emerging markets (EMs), which have gained market share for the first time since 2016. In their latest analysis, IMF staff note that the gross issuance of EM sustainable debt has risen to almost $200 billion in 2021, more than three times the average in the last few years. The ecosystem has also broadened across parameters and regions highlighting the increasing relevance of these instruments for the financial stability of emerging markets. We have Fabio Natalucci and Rohit Goel and IMF’s Monetary and Capital Markets Department to discuss the evolution of ESG markets in EMs, the potential financial stability risks and the policy options.
