Combating Frauds and Scams at a National Level Across SEACEN Stakeholders
Date: 2 July 2024 at 3.30pm – 5pm MYT
Across Asia and all around the world, scams and cybercrimes have been on the rise, particularly since the global COVID-19 pandemic. This is a concerning development which The SEACEN Centre’s members and stakeholders are taking quite seriously.
The prevalence of fraud, and in particular consumer scams, has skyrocketed across Southeast Asia (SEA). The region is a honeypot for fraudsters and scammers who has grown increasing sophistication of scammers due to its rapid adoption of mobile banking applications and the rise of instant payment systems, high appetite for e-commerce-based transactions and the wealth of personal information available on social media. The battle against fraud and financial crime demands constant adaptation and innovation. The growing usage of generative artificial intelligence (AI) as well as the growing interoperability of real-time cross-border payments across the region will likely compound the issue of fraud and scams.
