Dr. Noppadol Buranathanung joins SEACEN as the New Director of Learning Design and Development (LDD) effective from 1 July 2013. Dr. Noppadol, who takes over from Mrs. Lim Lai Hong who has since retired, is seconded from Bank of Thailand.
Just before joining SEACEN, Dr. Noppadol was the Principal Researcher of the Economic Research Office of Bank of Thailand (BOT) where he was responsible for providing guidance and direction for BOT’s research papers. He joined BOT in 1996 and has served in various capacities. From 1996 – 1998, he was Economist in the Economic Research Department. He was made Senior Economist of the Monetary Policy Group in 1999, and in 2002 he served as Team Executive in the same Department. From 2008 – 2010, he was Division Executive and was made Senior Chief Economist of the Southern Regional Office of BOT in 2010 before his last position prior to the SEACEN posting.
Dr. Noppodol has also served in the Thailand Board of Investment as a Subcommittee member and Chairman of the Cane and Sugar Fund Board of Thailand. He was also a Lecturer at Thammasat University, Prince of Songkla University and Mahanakorn University of Technology. From 2011 – 2012, he was Chair of the Program Committee on Regional Economic Database, Program Committee of BOT’s Research Workshop 2012 on “Risks and Challenges for a Sustainable Growth of the Thai Economy” and Program Committee Member for the BOT Symposium 2012 on “Central Banking Amidst Global Changes”.
Dr. Noppodol’s papers have been published by BOT and in journals. He acquired both his B.A. and M.A. in Economics from Thammasat University in 1986 and 1990 respectively and was conferred his Ph.D. in Economic from Kyoto University in 1996.
