by Cynyoung Park and Meltem Chadwick

We are pleased to announce the latest blog post on Suara SEACEN, by Cyn-Young Park and Meltem Chadwick:

This blog, based on the policy roundtable held on 15th May 2026, reflects on the implications of war-related oil shocks, trade restrictions, and geopolitical fragmentation for central banks.

For small open economies, especially in Asia, shocks increasingly arrive in clusters, moving through energy and food prices, supply chains, exchange rates, fiscal positions, financial markets, and inflation expectations.

The blog argues that central banks need to distinguish between first-round price effects and broader inflation dynamics, understand fiscal-monetary trade-offs, use scenario-based tools to assess geopolitical risk, and strengthen regional cooperation in payments, local-currency settlement, FX liquidity, and market intelligence.
