Geopolitical Uncertainty in SEACEN Economies | Interim Research Workshop, Bangkok
9 – 11 September 2026

On 9–11 September The SEACEN Centre convened the interim workshop of its Collaborative Research Project on The Effects of Geopolitical Uncertainty in SEACEN Economies, hosted by the Bank of Thailand. Twelve member central banks presented country studies: measurement and transmission (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas); exchange-rate misalignment (Bank of the Lao PDR); the changing trade landscape (Bank Negara Malaysia); trade structure and industrial resilience (Bank of Korea); external-sector vulnerability (Bank Indonesia); prices and inflation (Brunei Darussalam Central Bank, Central Bank of Sri Lanka); financial stability (National Bank of Cambodia); regional exposure and resilience (Thailand); oil-price shocks (Reserve Bank of India (RBI); and broader macroeconomic effects (The State Bank of Vietnam, The Central Bank of Mongolia). A cross-country SEACEN study examined extreme capital-flow episodes.
Our thanks to the Bank of Thailand-PIER for hosting, to Prof. Joshua Aizenman and Prof. Matteo Maggiori their keynotes, and to Prof.João Tovar Jalles (Ph.D.) and Prof. Gazi Salah Uddin for guiding the research.
Comparable country evidence is what makes regional findings usable.
