The SEACEN Centre is undertaking a collaborative research project on “Harnessing the Synergy of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human Capital Restructuring in Ageing Economies”. The collaborative research project on the interplay of technology and population ageing draws attention to the potential impact and resulting challenges of structural changes, such as how to create synergy between technology and talent during major demographic shifts, in the conduct of monetary policy and in maintaining financial stability. It draws upon the potential use of G-Cubed model in conducting the empirical analysis.
The research project is headed by Professor Jong-Wha Lee of the Korea University as well as Professor Warwick McKibbin of the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis (CAMA) in the Australian National University. Prof. Lee has written and published extensively on topics relating to human capital, growth, financial crises, and economic integration. Prof. McKibbin has published in the areas of macroeconomic policy, international trade and finance, greenhouse policy issues, global demographic change and the economic cost of pandemics.
Fifteen researchers from six SEACEN member central banks and monetary authorities are currently serving as project team members. The participating researchers come from the Reserve Bank of India, Bank of Korea, Bank Negara Malaysia, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and the State Bank of Vietnam.
The inception workshop was held virtually on 17 June 2025 which was attended by Prof. Lee, Prof. McKibbin, SEACEN Executive Director Cynyoung Park, SEACEN faculty staff and contributing researchers from SEACEN member central banks. An interim in-person workshop is scheduled on 28-29 August 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
