SEACEN Bids Farewell to Dr. A.G. Karunasena

After 6 years at the helm of The SEACEN Centre, Dr. A.G. Karunasena finished his term as the 6th Executive Director on 30 June 2012. He leaves behind many legacies and fond memories to the institution as well as the individuals who have come into contact with him in his capacity as the SEACEN Executive Director.

Dr. Karunasena will first and foremost be remembered for his contributions in articulating the SEACEN Board of Governors’ aspiration for SEACEN. During his 6-year tenure, he oversaw the successful implementation of SEACEN’s Five-Year Plan aimed at transforming SEACEN from a training coordinator to a provider of excellent learning solutions and research, as well as formulating the 3-year strategic business plan. As the first steps of the 3-year strategic business plan have just been taken this year, his contributions will continue to be felt in years to come.

There have been many areas of growth during his tenure. His untiring efforts in promoting SEACEN have borne much fruit, such as the expansion of SEACEN membership from 15 members to 18 members, and the flourishing of collaborations with reputable international financial institutions.

The stakeholders of SEACEN will remember Dr. Karunasena for his humility, and as one who always strive for consensus and win-win solutions. The SEACEN Centre will remember him for his effective leadership who accepts nothing but the best efforts from staff. We wish him all the best in his future undertakings.
