SEACEN Welcomes New Executive Director

Mr. Hoo-kyu Rhu officially assumes the position of SEACEN Executive Director effective from 1 July 2012. Mr. Rhu who has been appointed to this post for a tenure of three years succeeds Dr. A.G. Karunasena as the 7th SEACEN Executive Director.

Just prior to this appointment, Mr. Rhu was the Head of the Faculty Team at The Bank of Korea Academy. He brings with him a wealth of experience in central banking policy and operations as well as training, having served The Bank of Korea in various capacities for 34 years since February 1977.

Mr. Rhu was the Director-General of the Financial Stability Department from 2009 to 2011. He also served a stint from 2006 to 2009 as the Chief Representative of the New York Representative Office of The Bank of Korea. From 2002 to 2006, he was the Director-General of the International Relations Office/Overseas Economic Information Office. Mr. Rhu started his career at The Bank of Korea as an Economist in the Research Department and has had experience in various departments of the Bank such as the Secretariat, Statistics, Personnel and International Finance.

Mr. Rhu has a M.A. in Economics from the University of Iowa as well as Yonsei University. His B.A. in Economics is from the Seoul National University. Mr. Rhu is married with two sons.
