SEACEN Collaborative Research Project RP1

Description

The SEACEN Centre, in collaboration with the Bank of Thailand, will convene the Interim Workshop for the SEACEN Research Project on “The Effects of Geopolitical Uncertainty in SEACEN Economies” on 9–11 September 2026 in Bangkok.

The workshop will bring together central bank researchers, policymakers and invited experts to examine how geopolitical uncertainty is being transmitted across SEACEN economies. Discussions will cover trade and external-sector vulnerabilities, exchange rates, inflation, commodity and energy price channels, financial stability, asset prices, and extreme capital flow episodes.Drawing on country studies from SEACEN member economies, the workshop will provide a platform to compare experiences, assess transmission channels and identify policy-relevant lessons for central banks navigating an increasingly fragmented and uncertain global environment.

The programme will also feature keynote presentations by Joshua Aizenman and Matteo Maggiori, with contributions from Prof. João Tovar Jalles and Prof. Gazi Salah Uddin.
