SEACEN ED SPEAKS ON TECHNICAL COOPERATION AMONG CENTRAL BANKS AT CEMLA

The Executive Director of The SEACEN Centre, Mr. Hookyu Rhu, was invited to speak on “Technical Cooperation among Central Banks” on 19 July 2012 in conjunction with the Conference on “Central Bank Cooperation at the Beginning of the 21st Century” organized by the Center for Latin American Monetary Studies (CEMLA) to commemorate its 60th anniversary.
In his presentation, Mr. Rhu spoke on SEACEN’s role as being the most inclusive group of central banks in learning and networking/collaboration in Asia-Pacific built on trust over long-term association. He also stressed the alignment of SEACEN’s learning solutions to member banks’ needs as well as their contextualization to the region with real-life case studies and research input which emphasizes topical policy issues. He stated that in SEACEN’s active strategic alliances with other premier international and regional organizations, its experience in technical cooperation includes the four areas of (i) Sharing of Technical Expertise; (ii) Sharing of Information and Experience; (iii) Setting-up of Working Groups and Task Forces; and (iv) Promoting Inter-regional Cooperation.
Besides SEACEN represented by Mr. Rhu, participants at the Conference included governors and authorities of CEMLA’s associate and collaborating institutions, as well as representatives of other regional central banks and international organizations such as the BIS, Consejo Monetario Centroamericano, IADB, IMF, and the World Bank.
