BCBS-SEACEN Core Principles Outreach Workshop
The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) and The South East Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) Research and Training Centre conducted an outreach workshop on the revisions to the Core principles for effective banking supervision (“Core Principles”) on Tuesday 26 September 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Core Principles are the de facto minimum standards for the sound prudential regulation and supervision of banks and banking systems. They are universally applicable and accommodate a range of banking systems and broad spectrum of banks. The Core Principles are used by supervisors to assess the effectiveness of their regulatory and supervisory frameworks. They are also used by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank as part of the Financial Sector Assessment Programme (FSAP) to evaluate the effectiveness of countries’ banking supervisory systems and practices.
The outreach workshop was organised as a part of the public consultation process to solicit direct feedback from the Central banks, Supervisory Authorities and banks in the Asia-Pacific Region. 47 delegates from 29 jurisdictions, including virtual delegates from banks, participated in the workshop.
